“Creative Young Designer 6”: Nurturing a New Generation of Designers, Elevating Thai Community Product Packaging
Classroom knowledge into practice by creating work that addresses real social and community needs

School of Fine and Applied Arts promotes experiential learning by partnering with the EISA project to organize “Creative Young Designer 6,” giving students in the Visual Communication Design program the opportunity to bring classroom knowledge into practice by creating work that addresses real social and community needs — through designing packaging for actual community products, under the course [Visual Communication Design] 330: Graphic Design on Packaging.

The project assigned students to design packaging for 11 community products, covering products from multiple regions, including: cashew nut products from the Wat Noen Sung community in Trat Province; jasmine rice products from Chachoengsao Province; brown rice products from Ban Noen Nong Bua in Ratchaburi Province; and Robusta coffee-leaf tea products from Tham Sing in Chumphon Province. The goal was for the students’ work to be genuinely usable, adding value and elevating the image of community products so they can compete effectively in the market.

Throughout the project, students learned to work through the process much like professional designers — from researching product information and analyzing target audiences, to developing design concepts, and ultimately creating packaging that balances aesthetics, functionality, and brand communication. They also received guidance and coaching from experts in packaging graphic design, helping them develop skills aligned with the current demands of the creative industry.

Beyond building professional skills, the project also gave students the opportunity to build a network of collaboration with partner organizations as Strategic Partners, while learning how to work with communities and various sectors — an important experience in preparing for their future careers.

The Creative Young Designer 6 project reflects the teaching approach of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at Bangkok University, which emphasizes Experiential Learning — combining creativity with social development through work that can be applied in real use, while helping elevate the potential of Thai community products to reach broader markets, both domestically and internationally.
