BU Joins the Global Dolby Creator Lab Network, Advancing Creative Technology Education in Southeast Asia
Bangkok University has become a partner institution in the global Dolby Creator Lab network, bringing industry-standard HDR training to Southeast Asia.
School of Digital Media and Cinematic Arts has been appointed a Dolby Creator Lab Affiliate, joining a network of international higher-education institutions that work directly with Dolby Laboratories. The partnership was officially launched through “Unfold the Power of Images: Visual Storytelling in HDR,” a hands-on workshop on HDR storytelling led by Dolby experts and international cinematographer Matthias Bolliger, held in collaboration with the Thai Society of Cinematographers (TSC) and Golden Duck International Co., Ltd., Dolby’s authorized distributor in Thailand and a provider of solutions for film, broadcast, professional audio-visual production, and post-production.
Through this affiliation, the School of Digital Media and Cinematic Arts has gained access to Dolby Vision™ and Dolby Atmos® training resources, curriculum support, and a global network of educators and creative professionals — the same infrastructure Dolby provides to its partner institutions worldwide.
This collaboration lays the foundation for a long-term academic relationship and positions Bangkok University among institutions integrating HDR and immersive audio technology into the education of filmmakers, editors, colourists, and sound designers, giving students direct experience with workflows used in today’s creative industry.
The Dolby Creator Lab Affiliate appointment reflects a broader trend of education integrating with industry. Through “Unfold the Power of Images: Visual Storytelling in HDR” — the first academic program under this partnership — and under the principle that High Dynamic Range (HDR) is a storytelling tool rather than merely a technical specification, Dolby experts and cinematographer Matthias Bolliger guided participants through the HDR and Dolby Vision workflow, from production through final delivery.

What hasn’t changed is that students learn best by doing — using the same tools and workflows they’ll need the moment they leave university. Becoming a Dolby Creator Lab Affiliate means we no longer have to wait for that gap to close on its own. Our students will work with HDR the way professionals do, while they’re still in the classroom — and I believe this will change what Thailand’s creative industry expects from our graduates.”

Bangkok University plans to expand this collaboration further, continuing curriculum development and knowledge exchange with Dolby’s education network to extend Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos expertise into the School of Digital Media and Cinematic Arts’ film, media, and game programs.
