A New Perspective on Wood: "UUSI PUU – New Wood Exhibition," Creating Alternative Materials for a Sustainable World

Open up a new perspective on the potential of “wood” as a material of the future

Library and Learning Space, in collaboration with the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization, andthe Embassy of Finland), the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), organized the exhibition “UUSI PUU: New Wood Exhibition” to open up a new perspective on the potential of “wood” as a material of the future — while presenting concepts and innovations from Finland, a country that places strong emphasis on the efficient use of natural resources alongside driving sustainable economic growth and national development.

Inside the exhibition, visitors learned about examples of applying wood and bio-based material innovations across multiple dimensions — such as modular packaging concepts for e-commerce businesses that help improve material efficiency and transport logistics; the application of biochar in environmentally conscious construction; evening gowns made from high-quality wood fiber, produced from renewable and recyclable raw material sources; and a display of water-resistant wood composites, an example of alternative material development that helps reduce reliance on certain material types, reflecting a product design approach that considers environmental impact throughout the entire life cycle.

This exhibition, therefore, is not merely a showcase of design and innovation work made from wood, but also a space for learning and knowledge exchange between Thailand and Finland — aimed at raising awareness of the importance of using resources responsibly, and inviting every sector to explore new ways of transforming “natural resources” into “innovation for the future,” grounded in the principles of a circular economy and sustainable development.
